Jersey Shore town enacts emergency curfew as gathering of large crowd devolves into fights, disorder

Updated 2 hours ago
Police say they arrested six people during a rowdy pop-up party along the beachfront in Long Branch on Tuesday night.

The large gathering forced police to issue a curfew in the area, and now Long Branch is the latest shore town warning against similar gatherings ahead of Memorial Day weekend.

Young people were seen climbing onto a car in the parking lot of Pier Village, dancing and twerking on the vehicle, and causing damage.

Police reported fights breaking out.

Residents watched as many beachgoers started running away from the massive crowd that gathered on the boardwalk.

In response, Long Branch put in place a curfew, and police cleared the streets by lining up in tight formation and forcing people to retreat.

Rowdy parties have been a growing problem along the Jersey Shore in recent years.

In 2022, another pop-up party led to 15 arrests. Police swarmed the area in riot gear to break up the melee.

On Wednesday, security was checking what beachgoers were bringing with them and removing alcohol and anything else not allowed on the beach.
