He was in the basement at First United Methodist Church in Amityville on Friday night when police say another man attacked him.
The victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Police identified the suspect as Daniel Escobar, 33. He was arrested about two hours later.
The motive of the stabbing is unknown.
