Magnitude 5.7 earthquake strikes Nevada along with several aftershocks, USGS says; felt in Bay Area

SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. -- A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Silver Springs, Nevada, on Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake was reported at 6:29 p.m. in the Carson City area and had a depth of about 6 miles, according to the agency.



It was downgraded to 5.5., then USGS reclassified the quake as 5.7 just before 9:30 p.m.



There are reports of the earthquake felt in Lake Tahoe and even the San Francisco Bay Area.



There have been more than two dozen aftershocks, per USGS.

USGS said the epicenter was about 11 miles southeast of Silver Springs, Nevada, in Lyon County. Silver Springs is a little over 60 miles southeast of Reno.

There have been no immediate reports of damage.
