Woman killed in Jersey City at home on John F. Kennedy Boulevard West; man taken into custody

JERSEY CITY (WABC) -- A man has been charged in the stabbing death of a woman in Jersey City in her home.

Jersey City Police responded around 3 a.m. to a home on the second floor of a building in the 3300 block of John F. Kennedy Boulevard West. They found resident Patricia Santana, 53, dead and recovered a knife from the scene. Santana was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

After the killing, police said the victim's former boyfriend, Michael Humphrey, 43, called authorities and said he stabbed Santana numerous times. He said she was dead in the apartment. The suspect told police he wanted to turn himself in, but his phone went dead. Police repeatedly tried to call him back, but it went straight to voice mail.

Police searched the suspect and pinging his phone. He eventually was arrested on Hutton Street and Central Avenue while on his way to the police station.

Police said Santana and Humphrey lived together at the John F. Kennedy Boulevard West address.



Investigators from the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office homicide team also responded to the scene.

Humphrey was charged with murder, unlawful possession of a knife and possession of a knife for an unlawful purpose.

Bail for Humphrey was set at $500,000.00 cash or bond.
