Man injured after his pants catch fire on subway train in Midtown Manhattan

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) -- A man is recovering after his pants caught on fire while he was on board a subway train in Manhattan early Monday morning.

The incident happened around 3:10 a.m. on a northbound No. 3 train at the Times Square-42nd Street subway station in Midtown.

According to the NYPD, officers found the 55-year-old man with burns to his legs. First responders transported the victim to New York Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition.

Officials say the victim, who is believed to be homeless, may have fallen asleep with a cigarette during the time of the incident.

The fire is not considered suspicious at this time, police said.
