Police say the fight broke out among a large group of teenagers and young adults around 8:30 p.m. on the soccer field at Little Bay Park in Bayside.
According to police, as many as 20 young people fled the scene on two-wheeled motor vehicles.
The victim, who had been stabbed in the back, was taken to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where doctors were unable to save him.
Many residents who frequent the park say they've been pushing for more patrols for years.
City councilwoman Vicky Paladino said she was aware of the investigation and was in contact with police.
