MIDTOWN MANHATTAN (WABC) -- A stabbing claimed the life of a 39-year-old man Monday night, just steps from the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.

Investigators say that the attack happened during a verbal dispute just after 11:30 p.m.

The victim was stabbed in the face and other parts of his body in an alleyway in the Theater District.

Emergency services rushed to West 43rd Street, but unfortunately, the man could not be saved.

He was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.

The man's identity has not yet been released, but police say he is from Massachusetts.

Police are searching for the three men they say did this. Their suspects fled on foot and were last seen wearing black clothing.

It is unclear if the victim knew his attackers.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
