Mount Vernon voters reject $276.2 million school budget; district to review options

MOUNT VERNON, New York (WABC) -- Voters in Mount Vernon have rejected a proposed $276.2 million budget for the upcoming school year.

The school district hoped to maintain academic and extracurricular activities with the proposed plan.

Officials hoped to hire more math teachers and enhance language education.

The district will review its options and announce the next steps in the coming days.

Voters also chose three new candidates to serve on the board of education.
