Mr. Pink art sculptures popping up in NYC are rooted in 'cuteism'

MANHATTAN, New York (WABC) -- Flatiron and NoMad are glowing pink!

If you've walked in the neighborhoods the past few days you may have noticed some new, pink sculptures perched on rooftops and across public spaces.

The installation is called "Mr. Pink," and as local leaders explain, it's about a lot more than just art.

You'll find Mr. Pink, 10 versions of him in fact, at nine different locations in the Flatiron District and NoMad.

This latest public art project is rooted in "cuteism."

"It's about some whimsy, joy, mysteriousness, quirkiness and the artist Philippe Katerine from France has really embodied this," said Flatiron NoMad Partnership President James Mettham.

In the sculptures, some are made of resin, while others are inflatable and feature a scar on his chest... part of the human experience.

Part of the charm of this project is seeing all of the creative places Mr. Pink is hanging out.
