You smell 18 separate notes, and Phillips mixes, matches and bottles it.
"I think people just want to feel they are special, and their uniqueness is being expressed by fragrance," says Phillips.
Laurice Rhamee also offers a made-to-measure fragrance experience she is the creator of Bond #9, a line of fragrances that are inspired by New York neighborhoods, but apparently 63 scents aren't quite enough.
"There are 9 million New Yorkers here with different chemistry, so the idea is to sit down for an hour to find the blend that's perfect on your skin," says Rhamee.
The process involves a lot of sniffing, and the experience is very hands on literally, because scents have to work not just in the air but on the skin.
Rhamee calls the editing process like dress fittings.
"It's about the person," says Rhamee "we try to get to the soul of the person who are they? What are they about? And bottle it."
