New Jersey basketball coach charged with molesting two of his players

DUNELLEN, N.J. (WABC) -- A basketball coach faces charges in New Jersey for allegedly molesting two of his players.

Christopher Tarver, 43, of Jackson Township, is charged with improperly touching a teenage boy on his travelling AAU team.

Tarver, a suspended Dunellen recreation director and ex-Middlesex County College basketball coach, is also accused of giving the teen alcohol and marijuana in exchange for nude photos.

Tarver was charged with sexually assaulting another player last month.

The charges filed against Tarver include three, second degree counts of endangering the welfare of a child and a third degree count of aggravated criminal sexual contact.



An investigation began after the victim notified authorities.

Their investigation determined that the victim, now an adult, was a member of the Monmouth Power Sports Club, a travelling basketball team affiliated with the AAU. Tarver has been the coach and executive director of the team since 1995.

Tarver began working as the Dunellen recreation director in 2004, but since has been suspended. He also worked as the recreation director in North Plainfield from February of 2008 until February of 2013.
