In February, several sinkholes on Summit Avenue in Phillipsburg caused a dump truck to sink into the ground. It was headed to repair another collapse nearby.
Transportation officials said the money will go toward resurfacing the street and the sidewalk.
Gov. Mikie Sherrill said the state is working to get ahead of the problem.
Several residents who were displaced due to the sinkholes made an emotional plea to the governor for more aid.
"We have an old state with old industry and that's why we need to spend our taxpayer dollars wisely so that when we do discover problems with this infrastructure, we can remediate it, but at the same time, we really need to keep up with our infrastructure needs," Sherrill said.
She apologized to them for the situation.
