BRICK, New Jersey (WABC) -- A teenager is under arrest and facing charges in connection with the hit-and-run death of a 15-year-old boy in Brick, New Jersey.

Police responded to the area of Lanes Mill Road and Rhode Island Avenue just before 7 a.m. Tuesday for reports of a bicyclist struck.

Officials say a driver struck the teen on a bike and fled the scene. The victim, later identified as Jackson Mueller, was pronounced dead.

Brick police say a 2021 BMW was speeding when the car struck Mueller on the bike, who was traveling through a marked crosswalk.

Authorities say the driver of the BMW failed to stop, render aid or call for help.

The teen driver was later taken into custody and is being held at the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center.

Mueller attended Brick Memorial High School, just blocks from where he died.

A GoFundMe was set up help the family with funeral costs and a vigil will be held Wednesday night at the high school.
