MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) -- New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is in critical but stable condition after being shot in Manhattan early Sunday morning.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. outside an Asian fusion restaurant on West 38th Street in Midtown, according to the NYPD.

Upon arrival, officers found the 29-year-old Jets player with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. First responders transported Boyd to Bellevue Hospital, where he is currently listed in critical condition.

A Jets spokesman said the team is aware of the situation and will have no further comment at this time.

Friend and teammate Jermaine Johnson asked the public for prayers.

There are currently no arrests, but police say they are looking for a man who fled in a blue BMW in connection with the shooting. The relationship between the victim and the suspect is unclear at this time.

Boyd, a cornerback, is in his first season with the Jets after signing a one-year, $1.6 million contract in free agency, but hasn't played after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in the preseason.

He was a seventh-round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2019. He spent four seasons with the Vikings before playing for the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans .
