Starting on Monday, customers will be given the option to tip delivery workers up front when placing their order, instead of the current system of tipping after the order is confirmed.
The city's Department of Consumer and Worker Protection says the current system made it harder for consumers to tip, reducing worker compensation by more than $550 million.
The delivery platforms had changed their tipping systems after New York City raised the minimum hourly pay rate for delivery workers.
