The victim was crossing Seventh Avenue in the crosswalk just after 8:30 a.m. when she was struck by a 2020 GMC van driven by a 61-year-old man.
Police say preliminarily it appears that the van pulled out of a garage, and instead of turning right, the driver went westbound on Morton Street, which is a one-way eastbound street.
Residents in the area say that cars often pull out of the garage and go the wrong way because there is no obvious signage letting them know which direction the little stretch of Morton Street goes.
There is no visible signage for drivers who leave the garage noting the direction of the street.
Witnesses say the woman was given CPR but she died from her injuries.
The driver, who appears to be a courier, stayed at the scene and was interviewed by detectives.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Few other details were released.
