Police said the 27-year-old driver was sitting in his parked Honda on West 11th Street in Greenwich Village when three male suspects forced him out of his car and stole it.
One of the suspects was seen on video displaying a machete as he approached the vehicle, police said.
The driver was not injured.
Police are still searching for the suspects.
