BROOKLYN (WABC) -- An off-duty NYPD officer was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Brooklyn on Wednesday.

Police said a motorcyclist collided with a box truck that did not stay at the scene on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway at Atlantic Avenue, police said.

The NYC PBA posted on social media confirming the motorcyclist who died was an off-duty police officer.

The 30-year-old officer, who joined the department in February 2021, was headed home from the 84th Precinct in Downtown Brooklyn at the time of the crash.

He was taken to NYU Langone in Brooklyn and was pronounced dead.

He was wearing a helmet.

Police are now looking for the truck driver. It is possible they didn't know the collision occurred.
