"We thought what a great idea to combine our love of vintage with the movie theater," said Amanda Reilly of Paper Doll Vintage Boutique.
The boutique is rolling out the red carpet at a local movie theater, encouraging moviegoers to dress up and embrace classic couture for the premiere. Owner Dominique Maciejka said the event is meant to revive the glamour once associated with going to the movies.
"People don't really get dressed up anymore, especially the movies, people wear sweats," Maciejka said. "I think that bringing back a little bit of the glamour of the movie theater brings back something really nostalgic and nice."
To add to the fun, the shop has launched a best-dressed contest for opening weekend. "It's a super special thing to share with the other people who attend as well," Reilly said.
"The movie itself is vintage, so you can wear vintage to a nostalgia movie," Maciejka added.
The original fashion-forward film was released 20 years ago, and this event aims to connect timeless style with cinematic fashion. The contest will take place Saturday at 8:45 p.m. at the Sayville movie theater. Those who can't attend in person can still enter by taking a photo in front of the event banner and tagging the boutique on Instagram.
Fans we spoke with said they were eager to join in. "I like to see the fashions that they are wearing," one attendee said, while another added, "I think it's fun. It's a great idea."
The winner will receive a $50 gift card, two free movie tickets and, of course, best-dressed bragging rights.
"You don't have to wear a gown, but it certainly helps with the contest," Maciejka said.
