Police: Man sought in rape of 13-year-old in Bronx's Van Cortlandt Park

RIVERDALE, Bronx (WABC) -- Police are searching for a man they say raped a 13-year-old girl in Van Cortlandt Park and are asking for the public's help to identify him.

Investigators say the attack happened Tuesday, June 23 at about 10 p.m. Authorities say the girl was on a northbound Bx9 bus when an unknown man approached her.

Police say the suspect got off the bus with the victim near Broadway and West 261st Street, then grabbed her and dragged her into a wooded area inside the park, where she was sexually assaulted. He then fled on foot.



The victim was taken by EMS to a nearby hospital and is listed in stable condition.



The NYPD says images of the suspect are available and is urging anyone who recognizes him or has information about the case to come forward.
