PATERSON, New Jersey (WABC) -- A gunman opened fire on a group of people on Sunday evening in Paterson, New Jersey, killing two men and injuring four other people.

A 43-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, both Paterson residents, were pronounced dead.

Four others were injured. They are all in stable condition.

Sources say the drive-by shooting happened around 9 p.m. at the intersection of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Godwin Avenue.

The attack appears to be targeted and there is fear of more retaliation.

Bullets went flying as the gunfire erupted outside the 230 Liquor Store.

Graphic video shows at least two shooting victims on the ground with police forcefully holding another man down. A person can be heard yelling "help my brother."

The man who was taken down by police is facing various charges. His mother saw the video and is disgusted by the police response and expressed her frustration.

Eyewitness News spoke with Councilman Alex Mendez, whose office is just a few blocks away. Mendez ran inside for cover when he heard the shots, then came over to see what happened.

"Multiple people got shot right here. My office is a block away from here, was working with all my volunteers and I hear the shooting, so it's scary. I mean, this city's out of control," Mendez said.

Mendez is challenging the current mayor, André Sayegh, in the upcoming election.

The mayor's office called the shooting another senseless act of gun violence.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

The incident marks the second mass shooting in Paterson in a month after another one happened on April 18.
