The department says the worrying trend began in September and has continued into this month.
David Masliah told Eyewitness News security footage from his neighbor showed two masked suspects approach his front door, with one trying to break-in with a key. The suspects ran off empty-handed.
"I saw that the door was ajar," said Masliah. "I saw that my backscreen in my basement was also open. I was like what's going on?
The following day, police say the footage showed someone hop off a moped and go into Masliah's unlocked car where he had a left a spare set of house keys.
"I've replaced all my locks," added Masliah. "I've reinforced my doors and have an alarm."
On Nov. 3, officers observed multiple individuals attempting to access parked cars on Smith Street. As officers approached, the individuals fled the scene. A 17-year-old suspect was arrested after a chase on I95, while a 14-year-old suspect was also arrested.
Police say the 14-year-old suspect was involved in a shooting incident in Bridgeport and was also caught with a loaded firearm.
"Fairfield is a safe town and people want to feel safe," said Fairfield Police's Michael Stahl. "People may leave the door open what have you. We're in a day in age where we need to take away that opportunity and send that message that this is not a town were going to welcome this crime into."
Fairfield police say since the Sep. 1 ordeal, they have responded to over 50 thefts from vehicles and 17 stolen vehicle complaints.
