The fire broke out just before 8 p.m. at a home located at 48-32 194 St. between 48th Avenue and 50th Avenue in Auburndale.
FDNY officials say the fire was reported on the second floor.
Twelve units and 60 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene.
Officials say firefighters had to force their way through the front door, and had to fight through clutter to put the fire out.
They were eventually able to get to the second floor, and put out the fire just before 9 p.m.
Officials say that during their search, they found an elderly person dead in the second-floor bedroom of the home. They say the victim as living in the house by themselves.
One firefighter also suffered minor injuries.
The cause remains under investigation.
