FLUSHING (WABC) -- Life size masks of Frankenstein, Dracula and Wolfman cover Robert Marelli's dining room table, and that is just the beginning of the Queens resident's extensive Halloween decorations.

Every surface of the living room houses classic horror movie characters, while swamp creatures and werewolves peer out of the china cabinet.

"I have to remove all my wife's china and put it neatly in boxes wrap it up so they don't break," said Marelli. "Then one by one I go to the attic and I come down and I place these guys in here strategically so they get displayed properly."

A fan of classic horror movies since he was a child, Marelli's collection started with a model Frankenstein he painted when he was nine.

"I guess it was just the fantasy of it," he said.

Now his collection features hundreds of characters and toys. The mantel is lined with Draculas that bear the likeness of the actor that played them, and a replica of Eddie Muster's Woof Woof doll sits on the couch.

"What's the sense of keeping it stored up in the attic for years when I can enjoy it once a year by displaying it," Marelli said. "I have friends and relatives come over every year and we hang out and just have a good time and enjoy all of my stuff."

In August, Marelli's starts decorating the inside of the house before moving to the exterior in late September. The lawn is decorated with brain eating zombies, tombstones and animatronic witches, a skeleton is chained in the corner and a woman hangs from the rooftop.

According to Marelli, his parents love the display, but his wife is a different story.

"My wife hates it until one of her friends from work asks to come over then it's ok," he said.

And each year Marelli's neighbors come out to show their support.

"The just come by and they say you do a great job, how do you put up with this and the patience. I just say yeah I know it takes a lot of time but I'm glad after it's done that I did it."
