JAMAICA, Queens (WABC) -- A resident suffered injuries after jumping from a third-floor window to escape a fire that ripped through a multifamily home in the Jamaica section of Queens Monday morning.

Firefighters responded to 90-29 138th Place shortly after 7 a.m. and found flames burning on the top floor of the three-story building. Heavy fire could be seen shooting from the windows as crews battled the blaze.

Officials said one resident jumped from a third-floor window during the fire and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital for treatment.

The fire was brought under control less than an hour later, according to officials.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
