On Thursday, little Logan Poliey was back in the long arm of the law, reuniting with the police officer who helped bring him into the world.
Last Friday morning, his mom's water broke.
"Once the contractions started, it was insane, I was crazy, I didn't know to do what I needed," said Logan Poliey's mother, Emily Poliey.
She got in the shower, something that had helped relax her before her older daughter Nicole was born, but she and her husband quickly realized there wasn't enough time to get to the hospital.
"Trying to hold her, console her, get her into the bathtub. Everything was in mind to keep her as calm as possible," said Logan Poliey's father, Keith Poliey.
That's where officer Clarkstown Police Officer Shirley Gutierrez comes in. She's a mom herself but was responding to a 911 call unlike any other during her 11-year police career.
"I would have never thought in any lifetime I would have been in this situation," Gutierrez said.
"It was definitely a sweet relief because when Shirley walked in, she was like 'OK, just listen to your body, you can do this.' And he just started coming, and she was just like, 'yup, follow the contractions, listen to your body and do it," Emily Poliey said.
At this point, Emily Poliey was kneeling in the bathtub and officer Gutierrez was able to safely deliver Logan after one brief tense moment.
"When he crowned, his face was blue and purple, but I didn't tell her anything because I didn't want to worry her, and I didn't want her to stop doing what she needed to do," Gutierrez said. "So, when he did finally descend, I just patted him firmly on the back and he started crying."
But now there's only smiles, gratitude and a story no one will soon forget.
