The newest version opens Friday in theaters everywhere.
Really, every generation deserves a new version of "Cinderella" and the story of how a damsel gets rescued from a life of work by her Prince Charming.
It was my pleasure to discover Disney has found an actress worthy of the role and has given the fairy tale a facelift.
As the stepmother, actress Cate Blanchett is more campy than wicked, which helps make the film appropriate for younger children. Lily James, best known for her appearance in "Downton Abbey" on PBS is beautiful but hardly intimidating.
Her man, though princely, isn't arrogant. Their parting leaves him wondering why he didn't get her address, so he sets out to find her again by staging a ball and that's when Helena Bonham Carter makes magic as the fairy godmother.
Her appearance doesn't last long enough, though she narrates the movie in a tart way, making the whole tale seem less saccharine.
Many parents will simply have to go see "Cinderella" once their daughters learn there's more "Frozen" music as part of the program. Luckily for all of you, this attraction happens to be very entertaining. It's from Disney, owned by the same parent company as ABC.
