Scarsdale community activist found stabbed to death inside home; son charged

SCARSDALE, New York (WABC) -- A well-known community activist in Scarsdale was murdered, and investigators say it was done by her own son.

Prosecutors say 71-year-old Marian Green was stabbed to death inside her home Tuesday morning.

The house on Butler Road is still cordoned off by police tape. For over 24 hours, investigators have maintained a presence at the home following the murder of Green, which in the affluent community of Scarsdale comes as a complete shock.

"Things like that don't really happen around here. So, it's disturbing. You know, it's something that we have to worry about. You don't know your neighbors," one resident said. "So, it's a little scary."

Green was found stabbed to death following a disturbance call early Tuesday morning.

Police have charged her 26-year-old son, Chester Green, with murder.

Marian Green was a dedicated advocate in the community. She was chair of the Scarsdale Advisory Council on People with Disabilities and was described as a tireless advocate for residents with special needs.

The community pool in Scarsdale is set to undergo a $70 million upgrade.

The council advocated for sufficient handicap parking. Improved sidewalk access in the village was another focus as Green discussed with trustees at a meeting last December.

Green's son was taken into custody at the scene and taken to the hospital for observation.

He was arraigned at his bedside. He will be remanded to the Westchester County Jail.

He's charged with second-degree murder.
