COLLEGE POINT, Queens (WABC) -- A suspect is charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Queens that officials believe may have stemmed from a love triangle.

The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. Thursday on 119th Street and 29th Avenue in College Point.

The 50-year-old victim, Antonio Cantor, was shot in the chest and stomach. He was rushed to a local hospital where he died.

According to neighbors, Cantor was returning home from the store with his girlfriend when he was gunned down.

"I was in my shop, and I just took a break, and I heard some noise... five or eight shots," said John Red, who works in the area. "Dog started barking, and I was like, 'get in here, something going out there.'"

As distraught family members arrived at the scene, police identified a 55-year-old person of interest.

Jose Centeno was taken into custody Friday morning to be questioned before he was arrested and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Neighbors say surveillance video captured the two men fighting with each other.

A woman believed to be Centeno's estranged wife and Cantor's current girlfriend tried to break up the fight when shots rang out.

Neighbors said they will remember Cantor as a nice handyman who was always in his red pickup truck ready to help a neighbor in need.

The neighborhood is relatively quiet. According to NYPD crime statistics in 2025, there have been four shooting incidents compared to none last year in the precinct.
