80-year-old Long Island pedestrian killed after being struck by stolen car; driver charged

SOUTH FARMINGDALE, Long Island (WABC) -- An 80-year-old man who was entering his car was killed Friday on Long Island after being struck by a driver in a stolen car, police said.

The victim, Peter Morris, was entering his 2012 Hyundai parked on Woodward Parkway in South Farmingdale about 11:40 a.m. Friday when it was hit by a stolen 2013 Nissan driven by 24-year-old Randy Colon, police said.

Colon fled the scene on foot but was located by officers nearby and taken into custody, authorities said.

Morris was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

Colon is charged with second-degree manslaughter, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, fourth-degree grand larceny, and leaving the scene of an incident resulting in death.
