MT EDEN, The Bronx (WABC) -- A suspect was arrested on Sunday in a shooting in the Bronx on Saturday in which a 12-year-old boy was struck and killed by a stray bullet.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said that NYPD detectives took 45-year-old William Ferrer into custody outside of his home in the Bronx.

Ferrer is facing several charges, including Murder in the Second Degree, Tisch said.

Earlier Sunday, police released surveillance video showing a fight breaking out outside a bodega. The video shows a group of men engaged in a fist fight in the street just before 5 p.m. on Saturday on the corner of Walton Ave. and Elliot Place in Mt. Eden before one of them pulls out a gun and opens fire.

The boy can be seen in the video standing over his bike on the sidewalk right next to the fight.

More video shows the boy running inside the bodega, past a deli worker and a customer, while holding his chest or arm before collapsing.

The boy, later identified as Jacob Freytes, was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Freytes' father is a retired sergeant with the NYPD. The Sergeant's Benevolent Association released a statement:

Friends and neighbors left condolences Sunday for for Freytes and some of his favorite things were surrounded by memorial candles and expressions of love. The neighborhood called him 'Kai' and they are crushed.

"In loved him so much, Why did that have to happen to him? It's not fair with the guns and gangs out there," said Toby Patterson.

Neighbors say he was very helpful.

"He would help older people," said Carmen Urizar.

The bike belonged to his 12-year-old neighbor, who gave it to him just the day before.

"I was like, since I'm not going to use the pedal bike, my mom offered him to use the other bike that I had," said 12-year-old neighbor Marlyn Rosario.

"We used to go outside to play with the bikes. Kai is a very nice kid. Good kid, nice spirit -- told me he wants to play NBA," added Byron De Los Santos.

A 34-year-old man was also shot in the foot, and a 25-year-old was shot in the backside. Both are expected to survive.
