The mystery of the World War II bracelet

Monday, March 23, 2015
It's a silver bracelet worn down by the patina of decades. Inscribed with the name Abraham Silverman, a mysterious 8 digit number beneath the name. Underneath, a message from a long lost love named Ann.

"All these years it's been in Minnesota and it belongs at home. It's somebody's," said Cindy Ellingson, who found the mysterious bracelet as a child snooping inside her mother's jewelry box.

Cindy never asked her now-late parents about the bracelet. But after inheriting her mom's estate last fall, the Syracuse native called us to help her find it's owner.

"If someone had something of my father, I would do anything to get it back," said Cindy.

It was a sweetheart bracelet. Many were given to GI's before they left to fight World War II. The number? Abraham's military serial number. That led us 300 miles away. To the home of Ronda Berkman, Abraham's daughter. Cindy drove all the way from Syracuse to deliver it personally.

Ronda gave us some background on her beloved dad. Abraham was an accomplished painter, who died just 5 years ago. "Ann" was her mother. They were married days before he shipped out to fight in war.

Cindy delivered the precious bracelet to Ronda, "This is yours, and it's been at my house in Minnesota for 40 years."

"Oh my God! Thank you thank you," said Ronda. "What a miracle."

After almost 50 years of keeping it safe, Cindy got to see the couple responsible for the bracelet.

But how did her her Midwest parents wind up with a Boston area boys bracelet?

"He (Abraham) was in the African campaign and went up through the boot (of Italy) and every single town (where he fought) is painted on it," said Ronda.

Now, these 2 ladies who never met until this day are vowing to try to solve the mystery.

But for now are just happy the bracelet is finally home.

"I would not have been able to do this. I tried and tried and tried," said Cindy.

This left one daughter, reminiscing about her dad and his long lost mom, the love of his life.

"I feel in some way you have brought my parents back to me so thank you thank you," said Ronda.
