Thieves steal $40K of Pokémon cards from New Jersey store in under 2 minutes

ROCHELLE PARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- Criminals were caught on camera making off with tens of thousands of dollars' worth of Pokémon cards during a smash-and-grab robbery in Rochelle Park.

On Thursday, the store owner spoke out about watching his life's work vanish in the blink of an eye.

It took the burglars just one minute and 13 seconds to smash through the glass door of Big Pack Hobby Shop and scoop up the most desirable Pokémon cards in the shop.

They robbed Pablo Rancier of what he has accumulated through a lifelong passion.

"This was like a dream of mine opening the card store, we just celebrated our three-year anniversary yesterday actually, this is a passion of mine, as much as it sucks and it could happen again, I'm just going to keep going because this is what I love," Rancier said.

The popular cards are huge in demand and some are more valuable than others. The masked trio snatched up the top of the line that the store carried.

It's estimated that $40,000 to $50,000 worth of merchandise was taken.

Police hope license plate readers that dot the roadways heading toward the Parkway will give them more information about the getaway car - a small dark-colored SUV.

Though disheartening, Rancier has a huge following and says the close-knit card trading community is worth it to him to keep the shop going.

"Gotta stay positive, I could sit and mope and be angry, but I have tons of messages of support so it felt good, we're going to try to restock and clean everything up and get new displays, and I'm gonna be back to serving everyone who wants to come in," Rancier said.
