Ferrer is a Cuban American scholar who has written extensively on Cuban history. She just penned a new book, "Keeper of my Kin: Memoir of an Immigrant Daughter."
The book is a deeply personal family memoir exploring migration, silence and the guilt she felt over a half-brother who was left behind in Cuba.
Ferrer is also a professor at Princeton University.
