Bullock and Kidman reprise their roles in the latest installment of the franchise, which follows the Owens women as they travel to England in an effort to break their centuries-old family love curse.
During an interview with Joelle Garguilo, the longtime co-stars reflected on their friendship and what it was like reuniting on screen.
Asked what was most magical about Kidman, Bullock said, "She's walking magic. I mean, all of us have had the joy of watching Nicole and her art. The sheer force and will that she has."
Kidman returned the compliment.
"The whole cast always says this about Sandie. She's knowledge. She's willing to share what she's learned and pass it on," Kidman said.
Bullock added, "Yeah you can't gatekeep."
Joining the returning stars are Joey King and Maisie Williams, who play Sally Owens' daughters.
King said one of the film's central themes is the strength of family bonds.
"Sisterhood has always been a super powerful thing in our lives," King said. "That relationship with your sisters, with your mother, it's just so powerful and complex, and there's just truly nothing like it. And so it was just truly such a gift to be able to portray the relationship that they have with their mother and their aunt. That generational love of of women runs so deep and there's so much complexities to those generations of love. 'Practical Magic' has always done a great job of portraying that in China, and this movie is no different."
The cast also includes Lee Pace, Xolo Maridueña and Solly McLeod, who portray men drawn into the Owens family's magical world.
Asked whether they had been offered the film's signature midnight margaritas, McLeod joked, "We had a couple today."
Maridueña added, "They keep saying it's midnight somewhere, and I'm like, what does that mean?"
Maridueña also discussed a challenge of his role, which required him to spend significant screen time unconscious.
"There were definitely some laughable moments that made it hard for me to sit not moving at all," he said. "Like, Stockard throwing salt over her shoulder and me just being there feeling salt land on me. I was sitting there like, dang. I really wish I could open my eyes to see how awesome this acting is right now, but I have to be a limp body."
For Bullock and Kidman, stepping back into their iconic roles after 28 years felt surprisingly natural.
"It was so easy," Kidman said.
Bullock compared the experience to watching pieces fall into place.
"You know, like, you look at the clock and it has these cogs and you go, how are they gonna fit? Oh my god. They fit," she said. "And that's the way that it was. You're like, that's not gonna work. And you're like, oh my god. It works. So it's it's a built in little tension maker in the very best way."
Williams said she even turned to tarot cards before production began.
"I do. Yes. I did a compatibility reading with all of the girls to see if we were gonna get along," Williams said. "Ours was the most compatible, but also Nicole is a Sagittarius and Sandra is a Leo. So all four is, like, yeah."
The actress received an invitation from Garguilo to share a midnight margarita the next time the cast is in New York, a fitting toast to the return of one of the most beloved sisterhoods in film.
