United pilot reports almost hitting drone while landing at Newark Airport

NEWARK., New Jersey (WABC) -- There was a frightening close call at Newark Liberty Airport on Friday.

A United pilot called to the control tower warning that the jet almost hit a drone.

The United pilot was landing at the time and wasn't alone. Another pilot reported seeing the small drone a couple of thousand feet in the air.

Luckily the plane landed safely and there were no injuries.

"United flight 1513 reported a potentialdrone sighting prior to arriving in Newark. The flight landed safely, and customers deplaned normally at the gate," a statement from United said.



Operation of a drone near an airport is prohibited.
