The 65-year-old driver is in critical condition at Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton.
Six others were taken to the same hospital and are expected to recover.
It happened just before 7 p.m. Tuesday at 158 South Avenue in Mariner's Harbor.
FDNY officials say they responded to reports of car into a laundromat.
According to the Buildings Department, the van jumped the curb and struck a power line before barreling through the laundromat.
The crash caused structural damage to a column at the front of the business.
The agency has ordered the the building's owner to hire an engineer for further assessments and report its findings back to the department.
Meanwhile, the cause of the crash is under investigation.
