NEW YORK (WABC) -- WABC-TV's annual Emmy-winning special, Protect Our Children, hosted by Shirleen Allicot, focuses on people and organizations who serve as positive, life-changing role models for kids.

Advocates and Allies, A Protect Our Children Special Presentation, features an in-depth interview with Yankees legend, CC Sabathia and his wife, Amber. They talk to us about the PitCCh In Foundation, a charity they founded in 2008 to help inner-city kids in school and on the ballfield.

The 30-minute show also includes a candid interview with actor, author and child advocate, Hill Harper, who's a dedicated member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. He credits his work with the youth mentorship organization for preparing him for fatherhood. We will also hear the story of a "big" and "little" sister, who are currently part of the BBBS program.

The show begins with a rare look inside the Special Music School at Kaufman Music Center in Manhattan. It is the only K through 12 public school in the nation to provide daily conservatory-level music education alongside a rigorous academic curriculum.

Then we follow a group of high school students from Philadelphia as they attend a Broadway show, free of charge. This is the first time many of the students have traveled to New York City. The special trip is part of the Children Will Listen program, sponsored by The ASCAP Foundation.

We also head out to the Central Park Zoo to attend Dreamnight, a VIP event exclusively for sick and disabled children. Dreamnight opens the zoo to a group of very special kids, who don't always have the same access as children who aren't struggling with illness or disabilities.
