Westchester police searching for suspects who stole 200 stuffed animals, vandalized Playland Park

RYE, New York (WABC) -- Police in Westchester are trying to find the group of suspects that broke into and vandalized the Playland amusement park.

They say the trio arrived on Playland Beach in Rye on a boat just before midnight on Sept. 23.

They climbed a fence before allegedly ripping out cables in an electrical room, stealing 200 stuffed animals and trying to throw a photo booth off the boardwalk.

"This incident is both infuriating and heartbreaking," said Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins. "Being young is one thing - being destructive is another. I am angry and deeply disappointed by the actions of the individuals who broke into Playland Park and caused such senseless destruction."

Jenkins went on to say that the vandalism committed is a "betrayal of the respect and pride we expect from members of our community."

Playland belongs to all of us - and it deserves our protection, not our destruction," Jenkins said.

Anyone who recognizes them is asked to contact detectives in the General Investigations Unit at 914-864-7916.
