CARTERET, New Jersey (WABC) -- A whale has caused catastrophic damage to a fire department marine unit.

The whale struck the boat in the New York, New Jersey port area on Saturday afternoon.

The vessel belongs to Carteret's fire department.

The crewmembers say the boat began taking on water within seconds, so they had to get into the water.

A jet ski operator and another boater fished them out of the water along with members of the Perth Amboy Marine Unit.

There were no injuries.
