Woman fatally struck by SUV in Lower East Side hit-and-run

MANHATTAN (WABC) -- A woman was fatally struck by a turning SUV on the Lower East Side Thursday night in a hit-and-run, police said.

The crash happened just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of Stanton and Clinton streets.

According to police, a black SUV was northbound on Clinton Street and turning right on Stanton Street when it struck the woman as she crossed a marked crosswalk.

The driver continued eastbound on Stanton Street.

The pedestrian was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.



An investigation is ongoing.
