Woman killed, man wounded after dispute escalates to shooting in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN (WABC) -- A 33-year-old woman was killed and a 34-year-old man was injured in a shooting early Sunday in Brooklyn, police said.

The gunfire erupted around 2:33 a.m. at the intersection of Bergen Street and Howard Avenue.

According to police, the woman was shot in the back and was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The 34-year-old man was shot once in the abdomen and was transported by private means to Kings County Hospital. He is expected to survive.

Sources told Eyewitness News a large crowd had gathered at the intersection and a dispute broke out shortly before the shooting. A bar sits directly at the corner where the gunfire erupted.

Police have not announced any arrests, and investigators are working to determine what led to the shooting.
