Yonkers police search for suspects in armed robbery spree

YONKERS (WABC) -- Police in Yonkers are investigating a string of armed robberies at commercial buildings, and they are hoping surveillance will lead to an arrest.

There have been at least four incidents that authorities believe are related, the most recent happening just after 3 p.m. Wednesday at a Mobil station on Tuckahoe Road.

Eyewitness News has obtained surveillance video of another of the incidents, which was captured last week at a Getty gas station on Nepperhan Avenue.

The clerk was the only person in the store at the time.

"He was scared, he was terrified," station manager Mustafa Ali said. "Thank God nothing happened to him."

The video shows one suspect emptying a few hundred dollars out of a register while the gunman points his weapon at the clerk, who is lying on the ground. At one point, the victim stands up so he can open a second register drawer, but he is warned not to look at his assailants.

The first occurred at a 7-Eleven on MacLean Avenue in January. Then there was a lull, but since then, the suspects have been busy, hitting three gas stations in the span of a week.

The robberies have all occurred at convenience stores or gas stations between the hours of 3 a.m. and 7 a.m.

In each instance, at least two suspects described as black males enter the establishment, with at least one suspect armed with what appears to be a handgun.

Cash, lottery tickets and cigarettes are then removed from the premises.

The suspects then flee the location to a waiting vehicle.

No injuries have been reported in any of these robberies.

Anyone with information should contact the Detective Division at 914-377-7724. All calls will remain confidential.
