Suspected purse snatcher jumps onto Manhattan subway tracks after being chased by Good Samaritans

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) -- Police are searching for a purse snatcher who took off after jumping down onto subway tracks in Manhattan last month.

According to the NYPD, the suspect snatched a 44 year-old woman's purse off her arm inside of the 42 Street/Grand Central Station on June 24 and fled down the platform.

Good Samaritans chased after him and lost sight of the man after he jumped onto the southbound train tracks and fled into the subway tunnel.

Among the items inside the victim's purse were her cell phone, a credit card and approximately $25 in cash.

Police identified the suspect as a male Hispanic; last seen wearing a gray long sleeved shirt with stripes, dark colored jeans and he had on a large black backpack.

A surveillance photo was released by the NYPD.
