It happened Tuesday morning in the Jamaica section of Queens.
Officials say the truck crashed into a telephone pole, which cracked and pulled down power lines.
The downed power lines have left 14 local residents without power.
Eyewitness News reporter Stacey Sager spoke to business owner Tony Multani who said the incident could have been avoided.
Multani said that a wire was hanging very low and that the Mack truck heading down the road slammed right into it on Tuesday morning.
But the business owner said it's a problem he flagged last week on 100 First Avenue, because he knew something like this could happen.
"Yeah, but I made several calls last week," he said. "I called the NYPD, fire department, Verizon, I called 911 to come and report it. Nobody took action on it."
The ensuing mess knocking out power to more than a dozen homes and businesses all day including Multani's plumbing and supply company, on what should have been a busy day after a holiday weekend. Instead, it was busy for all the wrong reasons.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
