Fire breaks out at Playland Park carousel

RYE, New York (WABC) -- A fire broke out on the Grand Carousel at Playland Park in Rye on Sunday afternoon.

The fire started just before 4 p.m, Smoke and flames could be seen pouring out of the top of the ride.

Fire officials are on the scene trying to determine the cause.

"Staff ran over right away to get people out of the ride. People not in danger, because fire was in roof," said Westchester County Parks Department Deputy Commissioner Peter Tartaglia.

The Grand Carousel is one of the most popular rides at the Westchester County Park. The horses date back to 1915, the wooden structure to 1928 - when Playland Park first opened.
