No one was hurt but firefighters had to bust out windows to extinguish the blaze.
The first day of school for students is September 5th.
"The cause of the fire is under investigation and the extent of the damage is being assessed. The district began working diligently to ensure the building is safe and ready to receive students and staff next week," Director of Board Relations Nancy Deering said.
Staff development days are scheduled later this week. So far, there is no word on the extent of the damage to the building and if start dates have been affected.
The school added, "We are thankful to our security and facilities staff, and grateful of the heroic efforts of the Newark Fire Department."
