The 32-year-old victim from Queens was shot in the back. He was transported to Mount Sinai West with non-life-threatening injuries.
In the victim's initial conversation with them, he told detectives he was walking to the Mercedes Benz dealership when he was approached by the suspect.
A verbal altercation ensued. The suspect pulled a gun and fired multiple times, with one bullet striking him in the upper left back, police said.
Nothing was taken, so it is still unclear if this was an attempted robbery.
Authorities say the suspect ran off, heading south on 11th Avenue. He was described as 5'5, with a white beard, and was said to have been wearing all black.
