Police said NYPD received a call of a large fight involving approximately 15 young males at the corner of Varet and White streets. During the fight, a person took out a gun and fired, striking the victims.
"The kids were just yelling at each other," student Latara Little said. "One dropped their bag and they were getting close, and then they left."

Elizabeth Caldera was waiting to pick up her son when the bullets flew.

"It sounded like fireworks, like popping sounds pop, pop, pop, three or four times," she said.

A 37-year-old man, a school employee, was grazed in the neck, a 15-year-old girl was shot in the thigh and a 17-year-old boy was grazed in the thigh.

The man was taken to Elmhurst Hospital while the teenagers were both taken to Bellevue Hospital.

All of the injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Authorities said at one point a stick or 2x4 was involved, but no victims sought medical attention for getting struck by a stick.

Police said the suspect ran away from the scene.

No arrests have been made and no weapons were recovered.

It's still not clear what the fight was about, or if the victims were intended targets or just innocent bystanders.

Meanwhile, school administrators released a statement pledging to cooperate with the investigation and promising to meet with government officials this week about a recent uptick in violence.
