22-year-old man shot near Times Square in New York City has died

TIMES SQUARE, Manhattan (WABC) -- A man who was shot on 44th Street and 8th Avenue in Times Square has died, according to police.

The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, prompting a massive police scene near one of the busiest parts of New York City.

Police say the 22-year-old was shot after a fight, with two other men, one of whom had a gun and fired one shot that hit the victim in the chest.

The victim then ran a full city block before he collapsed in front of a deli at 43rd Street and 8th Avenue, where he begged a worker to call 911.

The victim was taken to Mount Sinai West, where he later died from his injuries.

Police shut down 8th Avenue for hours as they searched for clues into the shooting.



There have been no arrests.
